THE GOLDEN DOME TOPS THE NATIONS BEST RESTROOM FOR 2001!

So where is America's best public restroom? In the heart of the country, on a college campus, amid the storied halls of a famous institution. Call it the luck of the Irish, but a facility at the University of Notre Dame was the voters' choice in 2001. Not only is Notre Dame one of America's greatest academic institutions, it also ranks number 1 in terms of hygiene and image.
There, in the main building of Notre Dame University, it sits. Small by comparison to some of the nominees, but with a style and grace that appealed to the voters. Victorian tile floors are accented by solid oak stall doors and sinks featuring classical chrome and b
rass fixtures. The lighting harks back to a simpler time, with circa 1880s style reflectors suspended from the ceiling. Said Alan S. Bigger of Notre Dames Building Services, These restrooms are shinier than the Golden Dome for which Notre Dame is famous.
Far more elaborate in their design and style, restrooms at the Lazarus Oxmoor
Center (Louisville, Kentucky) and the Bon Marche Department Store (Seattle, Washington ) finished
in second and third places, respectively. In fourth place was another Seattle restroom, best known for i
ts view: The Columbia Tower. And rounding out the top five was the ultimate "nice clean gas station," Lee Davis Texaco in Mechanicsville, Virginia.
"Perhaps people long for the good old days of restrooms," says rus Brand Manager, Mike Wallner. "Whatever the reason for the votes, it should be comforting to know that no matter where you go, there are people paying attention to the little details about "where you go."
